In The escape, Galina Stetco creates a striking composition where symbolism and reality meet. The painting is divided into two vertical spaces: a dark, heavy grey on one side and a bright, luminous area on the other.
A pink creature with shifting, fragmented contours dominates the scene. Its appearance seems altered by time — as though it never fully became what it was meant to be. Its swollen udders symbolize burden, responsibility, and the weight accumulated over a life lived under pressure.
The creature’s back half remains anchored in the dark zone, tied to what restrains or exhausts. Yet its front half leans toward the light, suggesting movement, release, transformation.
In the bright section sits a baby, the central catalyst for change. Calm and radiant, the child embodies escape, renewal, and the promise of a different future. Its presence clearly expresses the transition from the shadowed past toward a space of possibility.
Inspired by the artist’s thematic approach to inner transitions and emotional landscapes , The escape becomes a metaphor for crossing from what weighs us down into what illuminates us, offering a deeply symbolic narrative of rebirth.
