One of the most significant transformations in humanity’s relationship with nature is the continuous expansion of production beyond actual need. Modern industrial agriculture uses the resources offered by the land not only to sustain life, but also to produce more, earn more, and consume more.

In this sculpture, the human figure carries a vast quantity of agricultural produce on its back. The abundance offered by nature has transformed into an increasingly massive weight behind the figure. At first glance, the image suggests wealth and prosperity; yet the figure’s body appears burdened beneath this abundance.

At the heart of the work lies the contradiction of humanity’s desire to produce more than it needs. As people acquire more, rather than becoming freer, they begin to carry the weight of what they possess. What is produced and accumulated eventually becomes a burden that limits freedom.

Nature’s abundance thus ceases to be simply a source of life and becomes an economic value, and eventually a burden that must be carried. While consuming the wealth offered by the land, humanity simultaneously consumes the land itself.

The figure’s geometric and mechanical body represents the effect of this system of production on the human being. Its emotionally detached expression suggests that all this production and accumulation does not bring genuine fulfillment. As material abundance increases, so does the emptiness within.

The muted colors represent the gradual disappearance of nature’s vitality within this cycle of production. The more humanity takes from nature, the more both nature’s colors and the colors of its own spirit begin to fade.

What the figure carries, therefore, is not merely agricultural produce; it is the weight of humanity’s insatiable desire for gain, consumption, and excess.

The more humanity carries, the heavier the burden it creates for itself.
